speaking of headaches, I listened to a BAD action movie this morning starring Tony Jaa

Why trying to recover from a headache this morning I ended up watching, listening really, to a bad PPV movie called "The Protector" starring Tony Jaa. The way dish was promoting this you'd think he was the next best action movie star to Jet Li. No where close. I wouldn't spend your money on "The Protector" if I was you. Of course the good thing about this movie is I didn't mind missing most of it 'cause my eyes were closed.

Ahhh, I wish I had some placebonol this morning.

Crap, I woke up with a headache early this morning.

Last night I had some tasty homemade green chile chicken noodle soup. Then I proceeded to not drink enough water before I went to bed. I even remember thinking I'm going to get a headache in the middle of the night. Why you ask, well probably not, 'cause I doubt anyone has actually read my blatherings, but I digress. We start off our homemade green chile chicken noodle soup with canned chicken broth, which is loaded with salt. Now over the years I've come to realize that if I don't drink enough water after eating this tasty soup I'll wake up with a headache. So I didn't drink enough water and no surprise to me I awoke at 200am with a nasty headache.

So a couple ibuprofen tablets , a couple cups of coffee and a couple of hours of closed eyes pretty much remedied my headache.

To bad placebonol doesn't work the way I want it to. :-)

satellite, FTA

I been playing around in the satellite FTA arena. If you don't know what FTA is, it's Free To Air, this means satellite channels available in the clear. These aren't Dish or DirectTV, so you need a FTA receiver with a bigger dish than the regular pizza pan sized Dish or DirecTV dishes, but not one of the huge 2-3meter dishes. Anyway, this is not a complete discussion on FTA.

I have multiple dishes, old DirecWay and Starchoice, pointing at various satellites. I use dual output LNBs so I can connect 2 receivers, well at least that was the idea. When I connected the second receiver a month or so ago, there was wierd switching issues between the two receivers. I had each receiver connected to a 4x1 Diseqc switch then the outputs of the Diseqc going into 2x1 22KHz tone switches, this way I could support multiple LNBs. Yes, I know I could just get a motor and move one dish around, but I have the room for multiple dishes and I'm getting the DirecWay dishes for free. Besides I want "instant" channel switching, don't want to wait for the dish to move. Anyway yesterday I took the time to clean up my satellite cabling morass which had evolved, most properly devolved over time. I replaced the separate 2x1 22KHz tone switches with used 4x4 multiswitches I bought off of eBay. Man what a difference, now do I no longer have conflicts between the receivers, but now I can support up to 4 receivers. Also, the signal & quality levels went up a tiny bit which tells me the electronics in the multiswitch are probably a little better.

For what it's worth I think I had a ground loop issue between the discrete 2x1 22KHz tone switches, replacing them with the 4x4 multiswitch got me back to a common ground.

Things to waste your time.

Do you have a hard time getting things done because to much stuff interests you? I spend hours reading various technical information web sites, bouncing from subject to subject. This morning I've gone from software defined radio, to whether my FTA receiver can decode 4:2:2, it does. The other day it was investigating diesel repower for a variety of 4 wheel drive vehicles. Do I use a Cummins or an Isuzu? Hmm maybe I can rebuild an old Olds 4.3L V-6 diesel. What vehicle should I repower, when I first started out I wanted to use the Olds 4.3L V-6 diesel in a late 1980's Isuzu Trooper, now I'm leaning towards either the Cummins or Isuzu in a late 1980's / early 1990's Toyota Land cruiser.

I won't even go into the time I spend thinking about my next investment.

First entry, let's see what comes of it.

During a fit of inspiration the other morning I decided to activate the blog for placebonol.com. My thoughts are I will comment about stuff when they are really bothering me. Kind of like an online journal, but not, but maybe, but .....
